Foreword to Managing Transitions in Life; making the best of transitions

There was once an ambitious high achiever on his way up the corporate ladder. In the midst of a high profile project, crisis struck. To the surprise of his contemporaries, his profession switched path in a most unexpected direction. He left his respectable establishment and joined an obscure band of followers of a humble carpenter. The Pharisee Saul became the missionary Paul.

Today I meet a modern Paul: Steven Teo, the author of this book was climbing the multinational corporate ladder when crisis struck. As a result he walked away from his boardroom, enrolled in a Bible School and was ordained a pastor. Like Paul, Steven did not remain within the confines of the church. With his background and expertise he ministers with ease among kings, priests and gentiles. Primed with his razor-sharp mind, honed in the competitive commercial world, tempered with his drilling in Bible seminary, Steven uses his skills, training and experience to equip Christians to live Kingdom values as professionals in the marketplace. He is sought after as a speaker in Christian circles and as a management consultant for corporate professionals.

In this book, Steven shares his accumulated insight from his personal journey of change. He records his transition from the business world into the church and then out again into the marketplace. His writing is clear-cut and well supported by sound research. I enjoyed his many interesting anecdotes.

This book is timely. More Christians are aware that we should and can serve God outside the walls of our church. If we are getting restless, bored with warming the pews Sunday by Sunday, Steven challenges us to take the plunge and step out of our comfort zone. Christ’s great commission is for us to go into the world, armed with our marketplace skills and Kingdom principles and evangelize the secular marketplace.

The shifting economy of globalization results in myriad changes and loss of job security. This book helps to turn uncertainties into opportunities. Others facing personal unexpected losses will find this book an instructive road map offering Biblical perspectives to puzzling transitional situations where losses become gains under the lordship of Christ Jesus.

I wish there had been a similar book earlier. It would have made my many transitions smoother and easier.

Foreword to Destiny; moving to significance and meaning

Unquestionably we live in paradoxical times: exciting, opportune, yet complex and troublesome. Massive changes in the economic, geo-political, and spiritual landscapes are hard to describe, let alone navigate, even for the experts. No wonder many people feel unsettled and lost.

Furthermore there are no "textbooks" to teach us how to handle these changes and how to make the most of our lives. We need insight from heaven and mentors on earth.

In your hands you hold the story of a man who is making great progress in facing the challenges of the third millennium. By any account, Steven Teo is an impressive individual. His story is a classic example of the "overcoming underdog"; born into a large and poor family in Singapore, short in stature, a little Asian in a big white world, a poor student as a single man and childless for many years as a married one. These are certainly the perfect ingredients for discouragement and despair.

Except for a man of faith! Steven's story shows you how he overcame all these obstacles to be an individual of immense influence both in business and in church. Apart from being the successful CEO, Steven demonstrates how he made the successful transition from the corporate world into meaningful, global, full-time ministry at the age of fifty. Corporate executives with the call of God on their lives would do well to follow Steven's courageous example. If he could do it, so can you!

As you read Destiny, you will find not only a triumphant, faith-filled narrative, but also principles to help you steer through the challenges of this new era. Let Steven Teo mentor you through the pages of this book, just as he has brought clarity to many leaders in-person. Learning and applying these principles will change your life.

Be prepared for an encounter with destiny.
