Children Ministry in the Slum

I was very pleased to play a small part in Ps Dennis & Daisy's ministry among the slum dwellers in Tacloban City. They run a children's program in the slum area including a feeding program as well.

The work is amazing - you must see it in order to appreciate the difficulties and the efforts they put in. This is not a glamorous work. The place smells really bad. Homes were more sheds and make shift "boxes". Like many slums, the place is breeding ground for criminal elements. Ps Daisy was telling me that in the early days, their stuff were continually being stolen - even as they are helping the people! This is no easy task. Often it is thankless tasks....but the fruits are beginning to show! Young people from the slum are now part of his DQX Church - and boy are they dedicated! Praise God!

We had a water baptism service and all three DQX members being baptised were from the same village - slum!!

We visited and prayed and we gave....we learn, we appreciate and we came back hopelessly touched in our hearts.....

Christine, from a family living in the slum, needs help. She is a bright student finishing in 6th spot in her school last year....Christine was filled with the Holy Spirit during our trip.

She is bright and cheery notwithstanding her poverty....I like her spirit very much. She is a faithful girl in church. God wonderfully saved her, changed her and brought her mindset out of the slum...

Christine wants to take up nursing....and Ps Dennis and Daisy are in agreement that it would be great for her...but she needs help. We need to raise around A$5,000 for her to complete the 4 year course at the local nursing school.

We also had Fun!!

Yes the work had been hectic and trying - emotionally as well - seeing the poverty, the crushed spirits, the needs around us, the hopelessly lost humanity in the city.....it can be depressing....we do our level best......but....Ps Dennis and Enzo certainly know how to get fun out of our trip....
